      Visitation hours:

      Visitation hours at the Rio Grande Detention Center are organized by risk level. They are broken out as follows:

      Medium-High & High Level Detainees:

      • Saturday
        • 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
      • Sunday/Monday
        • 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

      Low & Medium-Low Level Detainees

      • Saturday
        • 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
      • Sunday/Monday
        • 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM

      Restricted Housing Detainees

      • Wednesday
        • 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

      All visits must be 30 minutes or less. More time for visitation can be requested from the Warden for families travelling far distances. The facility recommends you arrive at least 45 minutes ahead of your scheduled time so you can be processed appropriate through security.  All visitors must present a valid ID. Attorneys can visit clients seven days a week between 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM (including holidays).

      Immigration Bond Information

      for the Rio Grande Detention Center

      Delivery bonds (i.e., immigration bonds) cannot be posted in-person directly at the Rio Grande Detention Center. Instead, family members or associates can post an immigration bond at any of the 82 ICE-ERO facilities around the country that accept immigration bonds. The closest facility to the Rio Grande Detention Center that accepts immigration bonds is located at 500 E. Mann Road, Suite A-3, Laredo, TX 78041. The number there is (956) 728-6600. Immigration bonds can be posted Monday-Friday (except holidays) at this facility from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Bonds cannot be posted directly at the Rio Grande Detention Center.

      To post an immigration bond for someone detained at Rio Grande Detention Center you must have a money order, cashier’s check or certified check. If the bond amount exceeds $10,000 and over, you can only pay by single cashier’s check or a certified check. All payments should be made to the “US Department of Homeland Security” or “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.”

      If you do not want to post the bond in-person yourself, you can also have a licensed immigration bond agent post the bond for you. For a small fee, ranging from 2% – 10%, an agent can post the bond for you electronically, so that you do not have to travel to the ICE-ERO facility. This process is typically faster and easier than posting a bond yourself.
